Nirwana Institute which was established in 1997 specializes in law courses. The Institute undertakes the design and delivery of law courses to meet the specific and current need of the legal system. Apart from acquiring the legal knowledge, the Institute offers a wider appeal for individuals seeking to enhance their legal skills and practical training. The Institute has entered into an agreement with the University of Northumbria for the award of the Degree Tranfer Programme. The Legal Profession Qualifying Board, Malaysia has recognized this university for the purposes of undertaking the CLP course with a view of admission to the Malaysian Bar.

Objectives of the DTP
- The law program is designed to equip individuals with the basic knowledge of the law within the legal environment. A student who obtains this qualification will be equipped with:
a. the capacity for critical inquiry and analysis b. the ability to develop their legal skills in practice c. practical knowledge in the legal field d. written and oral communication skills

Entry Requirements:
- 3 credits in SPM with minimum of 2 passes in STPM or A-Level or 3 credits in SPM with 5 years working experience (matured student entry). There are two intakes; January and September. Students who are eligible will have to fill the registration forms and submit the necessary certificates.

Duration:
- 9 months per academic year i.e, 18 months here in Malaysia and final 9 months in UK . (1 semester per academic year).

Subjects:
- The Degree Transfer Programme is approximately a 2 year programme.
Year 1 - Elements of the Law of Contract, English Legal System, Public Law & Criminal Law Year 2 - Land Law, Commercial Law, Law of Tort & Equity and Trusts
- Optional subjects : Law of Evidence & Conflict of Laws.

Assessment:
- Lectures
- Students are required to attend lectures on the subject each week. Study manuals are given which are designed to cover the syllabus. Lecturers explain the main principles in each topic analyze them and demonstrate their application in a practical context.
- Seminars
- Students are also required to attend the seminars in each subject. Normally students are expected to work in groups on practical problems and active participation by students is both encouraged and expected.
- Written Assignments
- Once a topic has been thoroughly covered, a written assignment will be given. This written assignment will assess the students on whether they have grasps the fundamentals, evaluate the information given and express logically and concisely on paper.
- Revision
- The revision serves as a last minute refresher on important and current examination topics. The Nirwana Revision Packs are quality materials prepared and regularly updated by the Resources Development Unit.
- Mock Exam
- The mock exams in each subject are essential and compulsory part of the course. Questions cover a wide range of topics. They are designed to assess and evaluate a student’s performance and ability.
- Written Work & Interrograms
- These are designed as self-assessment test for which solutions are found by reference to the text-book and other source.
- Attendance
- 5% is allocated for attendance for each year. To obtain this 5% a student must have 80% attendance for that semester year.
- Rules for Progression
- Students who fail any subject(s) in the Year 1 Final Examination [less than 2 subjects] will be allowed to progress to Year 2 but they will have to re-sit the failed papers for Year 1.

Advantages:
- A blend of theory and practical divided to 2 semesters per academic year and not 100% exams.
- If fail a max of 2 subjects out of 4, would be able to re-sit and continue to the next level without having to repeat the whole semester or academic year.
- Students would be placed with partner law firms for attachment during semester breaks.
- Visits to court proceedings during the course of study.
- Mooting competition every end of academic year to sharpen research and advocacy skills of students.
- 2nd year results taken into account for final classification.
- Northumbria voted as Best Modern University by Times Good University Guide and has a wide variety of subjects to choose from for the final year (20 over subjects): Cyber Law, Medical Law, Media Law, Employment Law, E.U Law, E.C Law Human Rights Law, Animal Law, International Trade Law, Intellectual Property Law and more.
- Students can do the BVC (UK Bar) with Northumbria itself which would exempt them from the CLP in Malaysia (Min 2:2 in their degree) as well as may opt to do the L.P.C. (Solicitors Qualifying Exams) at Northumbria itself.

Study Mode:
- There are both full time and part time classes available at the Institute. Study Manuals will be provided for each subject. Lectures set the framework of the course and covering all the leading principles within each topic. Seminars will include an in-depth discussion on key areas, method of answering questions and group participation. Students are also encouraged to read the other recommended reading references in the library. The number of teaching hours allocated for each subject is 3 hours. Students cannot prepare for the examinations through self-study using the study manuals.

Academic Pathway:
- Upon completion of degree, students may do the UK Bar, LPC or CLP and chamber for 9 months before called to the bar and admit as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. Students may also be able to pursue to postgraduate studies (LLM, MBA) or get attached as a legal advisor, police officer or join financial institutions, corporate or commercial sector at an executive level.
