Foundation in Science (F.I.S.) [KA5863]

Foundation in science is designed to prepare students who wish to pursue their career in Medicine, Dentistry or Pharmacy. The global demand and the need for quality health services has tremendously increased. Thus, this programme is offered in line with our government’s policy to increase the quality of services in the biological and health science sector which currently concedes with Malaysia’s Vision 2020 by combining the knowledge, technology, skills, community and humanity skills.

With the emergence of new hospitals in the government and private sector, the need for trained workers in the field of medical technology is critical. Subjects like Health Science, Anatomy and Physiology, and Basic Genetics taught to the students will prepare them for problem-based learning for their higher education in local universities or abroad.

Our Foundation in Science is internationally recognized as an entry requirement into undergraduate programmes worldwide. If you intend to pursue a science based degree in Europe, India, Russia, Indonesia or Australia, this foundation is a necessity for you. Nirwana’s LAN recognized foundation is a year long programme that will guarantee you the right start to your future in the medical field.

Entry Requirements:

5 credits - In Mathematics and either Physics, Chemistry or Biology and any other 3 subjects in SPM, O-Level or equivalent. If a student intends to do medical or dentistry, he/she must have minimum B4 in Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in SPM. + 3Bs in FIS out of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology (CGPA 3.0). Only applies to Malaysian students.

(If a student does not meet any of the requirements they will have to sit for the O-Levels Cambridge Exams in May or for SPM in November to supplement the grade of the subject(s) not met).

Duration:

12 months which is catered in line with all universities intake.

Assessment:

Modular based – 50% exams, 25% course-work & presentation and 25% practical.

Advantages:

  1. In house simulation ward for students to experience "real hospital" environment and are thought how to check pressure, inject dummies and how to do a blood test as well as first-aid treatment and medical equipment identification as we have 2 medical doctors in the faculty whom one of them is the programme director.
  2. O-Levels available for those who have not met the requirement simultaneously with the FIS (Time saving).

Academic Pathway:

Upon completion and met the entrance requirements, students may be able to pursue into the first year of the degree programme in:

  • Vetenarian Science (India, Indonesia)
  • Biomedic/ Technology (India, Indonesia, Malaysia)
  • Bioinformatics Engineering (India)
  • Engineering (India, Indonesia, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Australia, Malaysia)
  • Aviation (The United State of America, Australia, Scotland, Philippines, Russia, Ukraine, Malaysia)
  • Physiotherapy (India, Europe)

Fees:

RM10,500 (Lump sum) or RM2,500 deposit + RM1,700 x 5 installments
